WHO IS THE HOLY
SPIRIT?
The Holy Spirit is a distinct
member of the Trinity, separate from the Father and the
Son Jesus Christ. He has a personality and has a
function within a believer’s life. The following is list
of some of His personality traits and functions.
He is a member of the Trinity
Go therefore and make
disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit. (Matt 28:19 NKJV)
The grace of the Lord Jesus
Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of
the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen. (2 Cor
13:13-14 NKJV)
But when the Helper comes,
whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit
of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will
testify of Me. (John 15:26-27 NKJV)
In those days Jesus came
from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in
the Jordan. Immediately coming up out of the water,
He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit like a
dove descending upon Him; and a voice came out of
the heavens: “You are My beloved Son, in You I am
well-pleased.” Immediately the Spirit impelled Him
to go out into the wilderness. (Mark 1:9-12 NASU)
He speaks as
a person
As they ministered to the
Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate
to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have
called them.” (Acts 13:2 NKJV)
However, when He, the
Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into
all truth; for He will not speak on His own
authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and
He will tell you things to come. (John 16:13 NKJV)
He searches
But we know these things
because God has revealed them to us by his Spirit,
and his Spirit searches out everything and shows us
even God’s deep secrets. (1 Cor 2:10-11 NLT)
He reveals
All that the Father has is
mine; this is what I mean when I say that the Spirit
will reveal to you whatever he receives from me.
(John 16:15 NLT)
He decides
and distributes
It is the one and only Holy
Spirit who distributes these gifts. He alone decides
which gift each person should have. (1 Cor 12:10-11
NLT)
He abides
with us
And I will pray the Father,
and He will give you another Helper, that He may
abide with you forever… (John 14:15-17 NKJV)
He guides &
foretells
However, when He, the
Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into
all truth; for He will not speak on His own
authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and
He will tell you things to come. (John 16:13 NKJV)
He
sanctifies
Elect according to the
foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification
of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the
blood of Jesus Christ… (1 Peter 1:2 NKJV)
He teaches
…for the Holy Spirit will
teach you what needs to be said even as you are
standing there. (Luke 12:12 NLT)
He convicts
Nevertheless I tell you the
truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for
if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to
you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. 8 And
when He has come, He will convict the world of sin,
and of righteousness, and of judgment… (John 16:7-8
NKJV)
He seals
And do not grieve the Holy
Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day
of redemption. (Eph 4:30 NKJV)
He quickens,
gives life
It is the spirit that
quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words
that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are
life. (John 6:63 KJV)
He empowers
to witness
…but you will receive power
when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you
shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all
Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of
the earth. (Acts 1:8 NASU)
He leads
For all who are led by the
Spirit of God are children of God. (Rom 8:14 NLT)
He bears
witness
The Spirit Himself bears
witness with our spirit that we are children of God…
(Rom 8:16-17 NKJV)
He
intercedes
Likewise the Spirit also
helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we
should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself
makes intercession for us with groanings which
cannot be uttered. (Rom 8:26 NKJV)
He bears
fruit
But the fruit of the Spirit
is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control.
Against such there is no law. (Gal 5:22-23 NKJV)

Now the Lord is the Spirit;
and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is
liberty. (2 Cor 3:17 NKJV)

Jesus
He shall glorify me: for he
shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
(John 16:14 KJV)

Therefore, when Jesus saw
her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping,
He groaned in the spirit and was troubled. (John
11:33 NKJV)
He has joy
Then Jesus was filled with
the joy of the Holy Spirit and said, “O Father, Lord
of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding the truth
from those who think themselves so wise and clever,
and for revealing it to the childlike. Yes, Father,
it pleased you to do it this way. (Luke 10:21 NLT)
He comforts
The believers were walking
in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the
Holy Spirit. (Acts 9:31 NLT)
He translates
When they came up out of
the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip
away. The eunuch never saw him again but went on his

farther north at the city of Azotus! He preached the
Good News there and in every city along the way
until he came to Caesarea. (Acts 8:39-40 NLT)

like a dove and settling on him. (Matt 3:16 NLT)

through you
For it won’t be you doing
the talking—it will be the Spirit of your Father
speaking through you. (Matt 10:20 NLT)

The Holy Spirit said to
Philip, “Go over and walk along beside the carriage.

ý
QUENCH: NT:4570 sbennumi (sben’-noo-mee); a
prolonged form of an apparently primary verb; to
extinguish (literally or figuratively): KJV -
go out, quench.
Do not
lie to the Holy Spirit
Then Peter said,
“Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart? You
lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of
the money for yourself. The property was yours
to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after
selling it, the money was yours to give away.
How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t
lying to us but to God.” As soon as Ananias
heard these words, he fell to the floor and
died. (Acts 5:3-5 NLT)
Do not
strive with the Holy Spirit
And the LORD said, “My
Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he
is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one
hundred and twenty years.” (Gen 6:3 NKJV)
Do not
test the Holy Spirit
And Peter said, “How
could the two of you even think of doing a thing
like this—conspiring together to test the Spirit
of the Lord? (Acts 5:9 NLT)
REPENTANCE PRAYER OVER
GRIEVING THE HOLY SPIRIT
Lord I humble myself before You
and ask that You will forgive me for grieving the Holy
Spirit, the very center of Your heart and feelings. I
have disobeyed when I have heard Your voice. I have
tested Your patience for years, when you have spoken to
me about my willingness to change and I have resisted.
In the past, I have tried to
control my own response to Your Spirit and felt
strangely about how others respond to You. Please
forgive me for anything I have done to try to control
Your flow. I have not intended to quench Your Spirit
and hinder You in any way.
I have not wanted to despise
prophesies, Lord, and sometimes they are too strong of
meat for me to discern and I have turned my heart the
other way. Please forgive me for despising any prophesy
that is from Your heart.
I have spoken wrongly about Your
anointed leaders and complained. Please forgive me for
quenching Your Spirit due to unbelief and lack of
reception to their message. I ask that You will open my
eyes and turn my hard heart to receive Your message
through all Your chosen messengers. Neither do I want
to blaspheme the Holy Spirit by saying Your messengers
are operating with the devil’s power. I do not want to
partner with such sin in Jesus Name.
Please deliver me from a hard
heart from having grieved Your Spirit. Return, oh Lord,
not just with a visitation, but rather a habitation
where You fill me and dwell with me in Your fullness.
Eradicate anything in my life that has given You
sorrow. Please let us abide together as one. In Jesus
Name I pray.

TO EXPERIENCE THE HOLY SPIRIT
The more I get to know the Lord, the more I have
learned to experience the Holy Spirit. This is not
a logical, non emotional kind of relationship. It
is a walk that is actually experiencing the
Holy Spirit, Who is the emotional side of God. The
Holy Spirit expresses the deepest part of His
feelings. When we become One with Him, we literally
experience what God feels and once we tap into this,
our lives are never the same.
The emotional intimacy made available in knowing the
Holy Spirit is not widely taught or understood.
That is because few have touched the Lord to know
His real heart. The Holy Spirit is vulnerable to
being deeply hurt and grieved. He reveals Himself
to His friends and shares His deepest groanings with
those He trusts. He has the purest of love and the
purest of joy!
John 11:33-34 NKJV
Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and
the Jews who came with her weeping, He groaned
in the spirit and was troubled.
Rom 8:26 KJV
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our
infirmities: for we know not what we should pray
for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh
intercession for us with groanings which cannot
be uttered.
Luke 10:21 NLT
Then Jesus was filled with the joy of the
Holy Spirit and said, "O Father, Lord of heaven
and earth, thank you for hiding the truth from
those who think themselves so wise and clever,
and for revealing it to the childlike. Yes,
Father, it pleased you to do it this way.
Gal 5:22-23 AMP
But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work
which His presence within accomplishes] is love,
joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper,
forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence),
faithfulness, Gentleness (meekness, humility),
self-control (self-restraint, continence).
Against such things there is no law [that can
bring a charge].
